We had just been given the approval for Diablo Verde to be officially sold in stores, when we heard about this huge upcoming salsa festival. The Chile Pepper Magazine Salsa Fest was a 3 day festival that would take place in Downtown Houston’s historical park in late Aug 2017. I thought, WOW, that seems way too big for a small business just starting out….let’s do it!!! We submitted our samples, signed up for the competition and started making as much sauce as the four of us could make in preparation for our first festival. Just when we felt ready to go, along came Hurricane Harvey-- the biggest storm in Gulf Coast history.
Before we knew it, Houston was underwater and the festival was cancelled-- but not the competition! 3SonsFoods ended up donating all that sauce made in preparation for the festival to policemen, firefighters, and families in need. The awards were sent out in the mail months later and 3SonsFoods ended up winning our first 2 awards!!!! 1st Place in Best Salsa Hot and 2nd place in Best New Product.
Most importantly, our city made it through Harvey, and we are proudly Houston strong, Texas strong, America strong. 3SonsFoods will be forever grateful for the Chile Pepper Magazine’s support in pushing us to enter our first contest!!!
